Out and About: #LadyFestMiami VIP Reception

LadyFest Miami is a DIY (do-it-yourself) festival organized and run by volunteers made by and for women: trans folks, LGB people, straight women, kinksters, people of color, immigrants, genderqueer, queer, and their allies.

The goal of the grassroots organization is to unite, engage, and empower our local community, build a sustainable community and celebrate diversity by creating a space for education, transformative dialogue, art, and cultural expression. LadyFest is open and inviting to everyone, of all ages and backgrounds.

To kick off the first event and showcase a taste of what LadyFest Miami had to offer, they held a VIP reception at O Cinema in Wynwood on Wednesday, March 26. We were honored to be among those they invited.

I had a great time last night with the folks of LadyFest. I was pleasantly surprised to see such an eclectic mix of people gathered for a similar goal. There were several facets of the event from live musical performances and poetry created by @thebiscaynepoet to an artistic demonstration with a nude model. We heard from a dynamic panel of women including ally Felecia Hatcher of Feverish Pops, an undocumented immigrant worker from Florida City, an adjunct professor for an area university who is also a sex worker, and several others who were bold enough to share their stories.

It was an amazing experience and I look forward to sharing more with you as time goes on. If you are interested in being a part of LadyFest Miami, a website is in the works and I will pass along that information soon.
