Better Late Than Never: Happy Birthday to Me – Giveback Kickback

cover2So in true Kristi of the K Word fashion, I completely forgot to blog about my birthday on my birthday… or even the week of my birthday…

BUT

I had an amazing 5th 28th birthday while an equally amazing group of ladies and our resident “THE GUY” the weekend before last.

THE PLAN

The plan was simple let’s get a group of fab folks together for a kickback while we giveback. The result was nothing less than epic. We were able to make 33 care packages and deliver them to the homeless in downtown Miami and Fort Lauderdale. I am sorry there aren’t more pictures but there was a mini monsoon halfway through the festivities so we ended up playing the rain… yes really.

Here is a list of all the things we were able to pack in case you ever want ideas on what to include:

  • 20150725_133113Soap
  • Deodorants
  • Chapsticks
  • Two pairs of socks
  • Toothpaste and Toothbrushes
  • Tissues
  • Antibacterial
  • Canned Meat
  • Cup of Soups
  • Pencils
  • Ponchos
  • Aspirin
  • Razors
  • Combs
  • Wipes
  • Conditioners
  • Granola Bars
  • Crackers
  • Bottles of Water
  • Fans
  • Fruit – We picked soft items like bananas and oranges because unfortunately the homeless don’t often have access to dental care and have oral issues

Also we were gifted beautiful reusable Jantzen bags from Perry Ellis International. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I think that is it… I think

THE FOOD

My friend and great caterer Labrigini made an amazing spread for us. I only gave her two pieces of direction. I wanted them to be walk around friendly, no sit down dinner here and that I liked red and green. Voila.

We feasted on avocado bowls and garlic toast, chicken and pineapple skewers, feta and spinach stuffed turkey meatballs, mini creamy mac and cheese and more.

Let’s just say this was perfect and we feasted in the rain.

So that’s about it. I had a great time laughing and serving with some amazing people. I ate food that was still delicious while soaking wet. We gave 33 people a helping hand with what we were blessed to be able to donate.

Oh and did I forget….. though he succumbed to the monsoon I got my own birthday wish. A pinata filled with some of my favorite things.
