Hey Lovebugs,
Book reviews are coming I promise. I reupped on my kindle credits and Mama Sew Right and I are back with our bi-monthly book club. Reading always makes things better.
First up is the selection from my 9 to 5 book club. Of all the book clubs that I have ever been in, I must say this one is the farthest out of my comfort zone. From the book selections to the life experiences of the members, I can say it is interesting to say the least every time we meet up. The last two books we read were deep, dark and slightly depressing. So for the third book we chose the best selling chick lit ,Maria Semple’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette?
I will say for sure it wasn’t deep… forced smile
Plot Snapshot:
Through a mix of emails, memos and other documents, we find out what led a middle age Montessori mom to disappear.
I will keep this short because… yeah I didn’t love it. I didn’t hate it…. but I definitely didn’t love it. It was mildly funny at times and slightly nonsensical at others. I found myself wanting to skip through it as much as I laughed.
And then I saw the 2:41 second trailer for the movie and I had an ah-ha moment.
The items that were missing in the character development seem to be filled in by the great acting, headed up by Cate Blanchett. The ridiculous home they lived in seemed quaint. I began to look at it as a screenplay as opposed to a book. I got through it. We all did.
For those who are wondering, the book clubbers were all in agreement. It was a no thank you for us. I wasn’t expecting Morrison or Baldwin, but come on now. I wouldn’t recommend this book, but hey if anyone wants to grab some popcorn and a slurpee, I’m in.
Here is the movie trailer:
Has anyone ever read it? Will you check out the movie? Any new books I should read?
