KTravel: The Taste of Spain (Photojournal)

I have been home from Spain a total of 4 days. I am trying to get back into the swing of things but my life has been a little non-stop since hitting the tarmac.

I can’t wait to share my journey with you over the next few posts. The foodie in me has to start with one of the best dining experiences I have ever had abroad or in the states.

I am growing and am no longer petty so I am sharing the restaurant names and locations… for the ones I have.  Continue reading KTravel: The Taste of Spain (Photojournal)

Let Them Eat Cake! Mug Cake Recipe — Guest post by the amazing Chef @creole26

Hey ya’ll!

If you are anything like me, there are times when your cravings hit, and won’t leave you alone.  I have been going about my merry little business, when a sudden, STRONG urge for chocolate hits. I want it, I need it, I gotta have it.  If you’re anything like me, you try to limit the amount of sweets laying around the house because you WILL eat every last crumb.
So whats a boi to do? I pull out some basic ingredients from the pantry and fridge and make some magic in my trusty pirate coffee mug! (it says ARRRRRGGH! on it. No judgement, please.)

KTravel: The Taste of Haiti (Photojournal)

Where do I begin? I had an amazing experience last week traveling with Fleur de Vie to the island of Haiti. I will be posting more about the organization in a subsequent post but let me first say, this was a life-affirming visit. The work of this organization is nothing short of amazing.

I can’t wait to share my journey with you over the next few posts. The foodie in me has to start with one of the best dining experiences I have ever had abroad or in the states.

I am trying to decide if I am going to share the name with you (y’all know I am petty). For now, I will call it the Little Gem. Continue reading KTravel: The Taste of Haiti (Photojournal)

KWord Approved: Tasting Room by Lot18

TheKWord_TastingRoom_ 185

We have been talking a lot about wine and food since the launch of the Lesbians of Color Dinner party.  Ok we have been talking a lot about wine and food forever. Have you ever joined a wine club or thought about joining a wine club? I have considered joining wine clubs before but never really made the investment. I know what I “like” so I was a bit nervous about just taking their shipments without them knowing me.

So when I came across TastingRoom.com, I was very excited.  They boast that they are a new kind of wine club, and that they have created “the world’s first personalized wine experience.” It’s a simple enough plan (like most of these box of a month clubs), you receive a case of 12 bottles of wine every three months based on your taste. Tongue Action: Brussel Sprouts Recipe — Guest post by the amazing Chef @creole26

Don’t cringe, these are delicious. I learned the method in a cooking class, and I’ve been making them this way ever since. And before you even ask, NO you can’t substitute turkey bacon for pork. I tried, and it led to a plate of sadness and regret. Just leave the pork out if you want. You’ve been warned!

Ingredients

2 lbs fresh Brussels sprouts (it sounds like a lot, but trust me, it isn’t)
4-6 slices PORK bacon. From a pig. That went oink.
Balsamic vinegar
Dried Cranberries, chopped walnuts, blue cheese crumbles–Optional (I usually leave them out, because while it is a delicious combo, it is a BIT too much for regular weekday fare) Continue reading Tongue Action: Brussel Sprouts Recipe — Guest post by the amazing Chef @creole26

I’m A Pothead: Plum Glazed Cornish Hens Slow Cooker Recipe [with video]

Happy New Year’s Eve lovelies. I am sick with a cold so I will be spending the NYE drinking NYQuil and hot toddies. I hope everyone has a safe beginning to 2014. I did want to share one of my crock pot recipes. I just noticed I haven’t shared one in a while.  I make this for my family’s Christmas dinner. It is always a hit with us, I hope you like it as well. I’m A Pothead: Chicken and Sweet Potato Stew Slowcooker Recipe

20131006_114339I love food. I looooooove food. The problem is I don’t love the fact that my pants aren’t fitting at the moment. I have been using the excuse that I live alone and hate cooking for only one person, but that’s not working for me anymore.

So I brought my crockpot out of retirement the last week and made a Chicken Chili that was AMAZING (if I say so myself). I was able to eat off it all week, without taking one detour to Popeyes.

Ruby made a return appearance this weekend and I thought I would share (and keep sharing). I will try to keep my meals under $25.00 for the budget conscious among us.

First up, Chicken and Sweet Potato stew.

Cost: 15.00
