Like most series on this blog, I haven’t written a KRead review in a while. But seeing that today is National Book Day, I decided to get back on the proverbial horse.

This is actually the second book I will be reviewing by Anondra “Kat” Williams. Way back when I read her first offering black girl love. For those who haven’t read it, it is an extremely sensual experience… hmm… that I might have to relive.

Fast forward five years to her newest work, Pat Greene: Her Story. I must admit, this book has been languishing in my Amazon Kindle queue for a while, but I am very happy I finally read it.

Plot Snapshot: The coming of age story of Pat Greene, a black lesbian everywoman, filled with love, loss and a little lust.

Super Gay Movie Review:  Starrbooty — starring @RuPaul

StarrbootyFirst, let me just say that my Starrbooty movie experience has been an adventure in the making. Back when this girl was a barely legal, college radio DJ on the graveyard shift at WRAS Atlanta 88.5fm (shameless plug), a caller requested a song from RuPaul’s Starrbooty.  I can’t recall all of the details but I ended up finding the album and playing the title track.  It was the most goddess-awful things I’d ever heard…and yet, I was in love.

I searched for her over the years and got close to finding her a few times but that Starrbooty kept eluding me. Finally, I heard that there was a new Starrbooty movie out and she was better than ever.  I am not disappointed. I am not only satisfied, I am GAGGING. Super Gay Movie Review: Stud Life directed by @campbellx

STUDLIFE 7Have you ever seen a movie that you’d heard of and wanted to see but kinda gave up seeing it, only to run across it on Netflix and love it? Really? Me, too!
So it’s the Sunday night after Stonewall Pride. It’s still wet outside so, I am inside where any good girl should be. I’d spotted Stud Life a few days ago and brought it up to the missus. Well, she let me know, in no certain terms, that she is not in any way interested in watching this movie. OK.
Lucky for me she decided to hit the hay early. Time to get my flick!
Stud Life was really, really good. Campbell X had been praised when this movie hit the festival circuit and I now know why. The cast was phenomenal. T’Nia Miller, Kyle Treslove and Robyn Kerr have amazing chemistry and carry the story, beautifully, from beginning to end. I even enjoyed the music…and we all know that can be a deal breaker in lesbian movies.
My two cents, ok…eleven cents.

Super Gay Movie of the Week: Boy Culture Directed by Q. Allan Brocka

l_433350_6f8108e5Have you ever seen a movie that reminded you of a bunch queens you knew back in college ? Oh, yea…hunti. Boy Culture is that movie.

2006 was a good year for gay moview and Boy Culture is one of my favorites! Remember Darryl Stephens who played Noah in Noah’s Arc? Yep. He’s in it, too…which is one of the reasons I just had to see this movie. He must be one heckuva versatile actor because he plays a top in Boy Culture.

If you (like myself) were gearing up for season two of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black by reading Piper Kerman’s memoir, “Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison”…. eh…. don’t.

The memoir is NOT like the book in some very key ways, the biggest being, it’s not nearly as gay.

Plot Summary: 10 years after a whirlwind relationship with her drug dealing ex-girlfriend, Piper finds herself in federal prison, leaving life as she knew it and her fiancee at home.

SUPER GAY MOVIE REVIEW OF THE WEEK: SAVING FACE (2005)

Saving-Face-MovieHappy Monday love bugs. There is a lot going on in Miami this week for the L the G , the B and the T among us.

It’s one of my favorite events of the year, Winter Party and especially for the ladies, Her Winter Party.

If you remember last year we had a great time at all of the events especially Artscape and Industry. We had so much fun we almost forgot to blog about it… Oops.

This year we will definitely be attending the highlight event (in our opinion) Artscape, which showcases local lesbian (and not-so-lesbian) art work. So with that in mind we decided to overdose on some lesbian art, in the form of film.  Huān yíng to Saving Face.
